IFTAR FOR SYRIA: Sunday, June 2 6:30 - 9:30 pm
(an evening meal to break the Ramadan fast)
Islamic Center of Minnesota
1401 Gardena Ave NE
Fridley, MN 55432
The Syrian Tragedy is now in its 8th year. Over 11 million Syrians have been displaced from their homes - 4.8 million to neighboring countries and 6.6 million inside Syria. Over 500,000 people have been killed. The Syrian people have experienced bombing, starvation, and displacement for eight years now. Individuals, families, neighborhoods, cities and a country have experienced devastation - devastation of the body, mind and spirit.
Dr. M.K. Hamza is a neuropsychologist at Lamar University and Chair of the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Mental Health Committee. He has seen this devastation and has coined the term 'Human Devastation Syndrome' as a way to communicate to a world that doesn't know the deep impact this war has had on a people. This summer, Dr. Hamza and local SAMS- MN Chapter member Nick Zeimet will lead a team of mental health professionals to refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan to train those working to heal the devastation of the mind and spirit of Syrian refugees. Help us send the team!
Help us spread the word - please RSVP on Facebook!
This Iftar is provided by SAMS-MN Chapter. There will be an opportunity to donate to this Mental Health Mission during the night. Cash, check or credit will be accepted and will be tax deductible.
